About us
The establishment of a TAFE Development Centre was announced in the Minister of Education and Training’s Statement on Skills and Knowledge for the Innovation Economy in 2002. It is part of the Government’s vision for a reinvigorated public TAFE system, through initiatives to build staff skills, support effective recruitment, and focus on high quality people development for Victoria’s TAFE Institutes.
Vision
The Centre is guided by a vision of a reinvigorated public system of TAFE providers, staffed by educators, leaders, managers and specialist staff who enjoy high status in the community and among their professional peers.
Underpinning this vision is the recognition that vocational education is a complex, challenging and dynamic field that requires a range of technical proficiencies and draws on many areas of professional expertise.
Mission
The mission of the Centre is to promote the development and raise the professional standing of people working in Victorian TAFE Institutes.
Purpose
Working collaboratively to provide a high quality service that supports TAFE staff to have enriched skills and the tools to take a leadership role in their community.
Values
The Centre has worked together to agree on the following values:
Ethical behaviour
We communicate openly and honestly with our clients and team members. We ‘walk the talk’ by acting in line with our values and principles. We respect the opinions of others and are open and honest in all our dealings.
Life-long learning
We are committed to self-development and enabling everyone in our team to learn, grow and lead. We value knowledge, ideas and skills. We acknowledge that our experiences contribute to our learning.
Working collaboratively
We are willing to work co-operatively, and learn from each other, and share our expertise to achieve the vision and objectives of the Centre.
Quality results
We strive to do things better and look for ways to continuously improve our systems, processes and services to meet or exceed the needs of our stakeholders.
Customer focus
When interacting with our clients we demonstrate professionalism and respect by seeking to understand our clients’ needs, responding to their requests in a timely and efficient manner and actively learning from the projects of our clients. We show case best practice to others.
Passion
We relentlessly pursue our goals and energise others along the way. We commit to seeing a project through from beginning to end. We make it happen and we have the enthusiasm and energy to spark others to perform.
Objectives
The Centre has the following objectives:
- to identify and sponsor opportunities for the ongoing development of teaching and non-teaching staff in the TAFE sector, and foster recognition arrangements for continuing professional learning;
- to facilitate the development and recognition of high quality initial teacher training for the TAFE sector and lead the design and development of innovative approaches to ongoing teacher education;
- to support the development of educational leadership and management capabilities in the TAFE sector;
- to promote the use of professional standards for development purposes, particularly for staff in roles other than teaching;
- to identify, encourage and contribute to the development of research into vocational teaching and learning in Australia and overseas;
- to facilitate information exchange and collaboration, and support strategic partnerships, within the TAFE sector, and between that sector and relevant professional groups, industry and the wider community, at the state, national and international levels.
In order to achieve its objectives, the Centre may:
- provide training, consultancy, management and strategic support services within and outside the TAFE sector in areas related to its functions; and
- attract investment in and generate revenue for development of the TAFE Institute workforce.
To achieve its objectives the Centre will provide programs to support TAFE Institutes in the development of their staff. The Centre will also provide web-based services directly to TAFE staff in all employment categories.
